Hi Friends,
This post is LONG overdue. This has been my favourite dairy-free milk for about a year now when I first started making nut milk at home. I love almond, walnut and oat milk as much as the next gal but they all require you to strain the milk, which is a) another added step and b) you end up with pulp that I can only use for so many things. I did make a few cool recipes like crackers and granola with the pulp but the amount of milk I go through for smoothies etc. is way more than the nut pulp I can utilize and I don’t like throwing out that precious cargo. PLUS, for best results, you are supposed to soak the nuts overnight (which also helps with digestion by the way). So I just found myself not making it as often as I should and buying it because it was convenient. Store bought milk’s contain very few actual nuts and more water and gums – ick! So, I decided to try making my own hemp seed milk! It works like a dream in so many ways and hemp seeds are powerful, boasting 10g of protein per serving. If you’re interested in other hemp seed ideas, I also have another blog post of 3 ways you can incorporate hemp seeds into your diet daily which you can read here.
This post is going to be super short because you only need 2 ingredients:
1/2 cup of hemp seeds (I use Manitoba Harvest)
1 liter of filtered water
THAT IS IT! Blend the ingredients in a high power blender for 2 minutes and viola! You now have a beautiful bottle of dairy free milk. You could add more hemp seeds or more water depending on what you plan to use the milk for and how creamy you want it to be. Refrigerate for 4-5 days. I recommend shaking prior to use because depending on your blender, some hemp might sit at the bottom.
Enjoy in smoothies, hemp milk matcha – oh the possibilities are endless! Try this easy recipe out and tag me on socials as @balancingandie. I love seeing all your creations.
Disclosure: I am a Manitoba Harvest ambassador but all opinions expressed are always my own.
Oh my god! I need this! I love hemp milk! And it probably tastes so much better when you make it at home!
Homemade is amazing, so nutty!!
